This week in First Grade:
This week will be the start of week number four in first grade! As I tell the kids each day, time flies when you're having fun! We are still working hard to master our classroom and school routines. Lots of practice and reviewing each day helps us with this. We will continue practicing short vowel words (a,e,i,o,u...cat, men, hit, stop, cut). We will work on reading and writing these words to be sure we have a good understanding of them before moving onto trickier phonics skills! This week we will focus on five new sight words: mom, jump, how, not, man, in addition to the previous words. If your child has mastered all of them, please have them practice spelling them correctly and writing them in sentences! If your child still needs practice, please let me know and I can send home flashcards. Each week we have four new vocabulary words which we practice using each day. Children are encouraged to use these as they speak as well as practice them while they write. This weeks words are: neighborhood, neighborly, spot and rush. In writing we will write about what we can do independently. As writers, we are working hard to add details, use neatest writing and include all parts of a sentence (capital letter, spaces and punctuation). In math, we will review partners of numbers up to ten. We will also begin to explore our manipulatives and math games so we are ready to being math centers soon! |
Weekly Newsletter and Monthly CalendarsNewsletters will be sent out via e-mail each Friday. If you need to look back, I will also upload them for reference. Class calendars will be located in homework folders monthly and also placed online.
